Have you ever come to a point where you almost want to quit your fitness regime, all because you are not getting the results you want to achieve?

Why do you work so hard but you are not losing weight? Nor gaining muscles?

Then, there might be some things that you should not supposedly be doing.

This article will discuss the five reasons why your workout isn't working.

You Are Working Too Hard On Yourself

Fitness is a journey and it goes with a process. Like any other, it is not an overnight success. When you are working too hard on yourself, it often leads you to frustrations about not getting the results you want to achieve.

Thus, might cause a person to suffer from body dysmorphia, workout anxiety, and other mental health concerns.

To settle this, my advice is to start with a short but regular workout. This will greatly help you create a fitness habit and routine resulting in a lesser chance of quitting your fitness journey.

You Have a Wrong Relationship With Food

The workout is about 20% of your fitness goals and 80% is your lifestyle including your diet. Proper nutrition helps you to fuel your body during your workouts, so you need to come to the right balance of macro and micronutrients when it comes to your diet.

Note that the food you need to eat will depend heavily on many other factors like your body type and metabolism. So the nutrition plan you see on the internet might or might not work 100% for you.

My advice is for you to:

✅ remember to complement your workout by eating nutritious meals to effectively manage your weight.

✅ Check the appropriate number of calories that you need (You need not be an expert because BMI and calorie calculator are present online, just google it 🙌)

✅ Stick to all-natural whole foods and as much as possible, avoid processed food

✅ Also, look for food that has the shortest list of ingredients.

The key is to eat food that you might want to be putting in your body or consult a certified nutritionist that you know.

You Are Heavily Focused On Cardio

Yes, cardio helps to burn calories, but it doesn’t help you change your body composition. Doing the cardio workout will only be focusing on strengthening your cardiovascular system, and excessive cardio puts your muscle mass at stake. And also affects your metabolism.

To get a balanced level of body composition, you need to have a fitness program that consists of a variety of types of workouts. This includes but is not limited to strength training, mobility, flexibility, balance, and stability.

If you are unsure of your fitness regime, consult a certified personal trainer (CPT) that you know.

They will help you understand why you also need to lift weights.

You Are Not Taking Time To Rest And Recover

Did you know that rest and recovery period is as important as the workout itself?

Even your favorite athletes value it because, during these periods, our body actually gains strength and does most of the burning of fats. So listen to your body and do not overtrain.

Plan your workout week and include a day for rest and recovery. Give yourself time to fully recover and come back to your workout stronger.

Challenge yourself, but also give it some love, too.

You Are Trading Sleep For Workouts

Sleep is also part of rest and recovery. A major study shows that total body recovery and repair happens when you have a complete and good quality of sleep each night.

Most often it takes us so hard to squeeze in a workout during our busy schedule, however, regular trading of sleep for workouts can lead us to a major problem. Other than feeling tired and unfocused for your workouts, it could also lead to a risk for chronic diseases.

Moreover, lack of sleep can seriously hinder your weight loss because it triggers a number of hormones that influence food cravings that will result in weight gain.

So it is better to plan your workout schedule ahead of time and not compensate for your sleep.

Exercise is a stressor for your body, which is why you need to get a healthy balance of exercise-related stress and recovery time. This will help you lose the excess fat on your body and keeps it healthy. Moreover, other than maintaining a healthy body, also keep in check with your mental and emotional health and strive for total-body wellness. Live happy and healthy!
